Crispy Baked Green Bean Fries

In college, when I was dating my husband, I use to tell people that he was in the mafia.

He was always able to come up with these amazing tickets to different concerts or sporting events and there would be no rhyme or reason to how he got them. I use to ask him, “soooo how did you happen to come upon these tickets?” And he would just respond.

“I know a guy.” (and then sheepishly smile at me … which of course melted me)

So, when people asked me how he was able to pull off the things that he did I just told them. I don’t know, he’s in the mafia.

Did I tell you for our 5th year wedding anniversary he surprised the socks off of me? He picked me up for what I thought was going to be an anniversary lunch date. I get in the car and we start driving, he gives me this small bag. I open it and it has a visitors guide to New York City in it. Needless to say, I was pumped because I had been asking him forever to go. So I said, “awwww… really? When are we going?”

He looked at me, then his watch and said, “we leave in an hour, we need to head to the airport or we’re going to be late!”

Too which I responded “WaaAHHHHAATTT? I didn’t pack, what do we…. how did you …?”

He just smiled, looked at me and said “hun, I packed for you. If you don’t have what you need, we can buy it when we get there. We’re gonna be in New York City.”

Best Husband of the Year award right there!

Well, he did it again. This man never ceases to surprise me!

This weekend he pulled out his mafia card again and surprised us with tickets to the Wisconsin vs. Alabama Game at Cowboys Stadium… and they were tickets for suite with free food and drinks! He’s a stud. I don’t know how he does it, probably just winks at people and they give him everything. (at least that’s what I do) But he is a magician for sure!

Speaking of magician. I worked a little culinary magic of own last week with these Crispy Baked Green Bean Fries and a Creamy Sriracha Sauce for dipping!

These guys (aka long stemmed green friends … aka green beans) are dunked in a egg mixture and then thrown into a bath of panko bread crumbs, garlic powder, and smoked paprika, then baked to perfection. After they come out of the oven make sure to season them with some salt and devour!

We are “dippers” at our house so of course I had to make a sauce to accompany these green bean fries. Ever since I made that Sriracha Mac & Cheese a couple weeks ago, Sriracha has been on my mind…. so a Creamy Sriracha Dipping Sauce sounded divine!

The crispy outside of these Green Bean Fries combined with the slight smoky flavor from the seasonings and the spicy Creamy Sriracha Sauce will blow you’re mind. Who knew Green Bean Fries could taste so good! Bon Appetite my friends!

  1. Dipping sauce was good but beans, not so much. 10 minutes and panko was browning up but gb’s were already slightly overcooked by then. I will use the sauce recipe again for something else.

    1. Ohhh I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like the green beans girl. Maybe cook them a little less next time if you decide to go round two. Glad you enjoyed the sauce!

    1. hmm… you won’t have the crispy exterior. But you could easily just roast these with olive oil and salt and serve with the sriracha sauce, they would still be good. 🙂

  2. I was so excited to try this. I could not get the panko mix to stick. Any helpful hints? Full disclosure, I am a novice cook! 🙂

    1. I use one hand for the egg and one hand for the panko so that your not carrying egg over into the panko. If there is too much egg it wont stick. Make sure you are really pressing the green beans down into the panko. You don’t want it fully coated, you might still see a little green. Hope that helps Ronna! 🙂
