Eeekk!!! Finally! I’ve been meaning to share my new discovery with you guys for at least a month! I am finally getting around to putting a new feature up on Joyful Healthy Eats I couldn’t be more excited!
What’s the new rollout? Well it’s gonna be in phases! Eventually it will be a “healthy lifestyle” section at the top which will include workout tips (exercises), healthy beauty/skincare, essential oils, and possibly more. But for now, because my life is cray cray we’re starting with the BEAUTY section! Woohoo! 🎉🎉
I definitely don’t claim to know it all. I am always open to listening to a new idea, especially if it involves health and wellness! So when a friend of mine from my old Bible Study asked to meet with me, I happily said yes. (Plus who turns down a chance to be childless for a couple of hours and drink coffee!) My friend Emilie has been an Esthetician for years and has always been extremely conscious of what goes into and onto her body. So when she, a skin specialist and health fanatic, told me about the beauty products she just switched to and WHY; I valued what she had to say.
Like many people, I assumed that we lived in a highly regulated country, so the products I was using must be safe. I honestly, never even questioned the safety of my shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, or foundation at all. Why should I? Why would the government allow us to use unsafe products. Right? They regulate everything else!
I was so surprised when I found out that when it comes to the personal care industry, there are very minimal regulations. Companies are allowed to use harmful ingredients and make their own judgments about safety. WHAT!?! And these are things that we use on our skin on a daily basis and get absorbed into our bloodstream. Just think of how many products you use? Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Body Lotion, Hair Products, Hand Soap, Laundry Detergent, the list goes on!!!
Did you know that the last time a regulation law was passed in the US for chemicals used in personal care products was 1938. Absolutely shocking and appalling! It actually makes me mad!!!
Across the pond, Europe has a list of 1,400 chemicals that are banned or restricted for use in personal care products. Wanna know how many the United States has? A whopping 30 that are restricted to date. That seriously blows my mind!
BeautyCounter has a list of over 1,500 chemicals that are banned from use in all their products. They call it the “never list.” They are on a mission to change the personal care industry and are constantly before congress pushing for more regulations to be passed! Now, that is a company I want to buy from!
After doing my own research using the EWG’s website SkinDeep database. I made the switch to using all BeautyCounter products for my family. Now, I can wash my hair or more importantly my sons hair, worry free. I’m not putting anything on his skin that’s going to cause harm later! And THAT is priceless!
I am so proud to put BeautyCounter on my site and I KNOW you are going to love it! There are so many other women coming out supporting BeautyCounter including Mandy Moore, Giada De Laurentiis, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Christy Coleman (celebrity makeup artist). All that to say, it’s legit, growing, and SAFE for your skin!
So, where’s this new section?
In the NEW BEAUTY section of Joyful Healthy Eats, I go in a little more depth on the company itself as well as why I decided to switch out everything in my house. I also talk a little bit more about the EWG (Environmental Working Group) and why their website and app are so handy to have around.
Plus, I share all my favorite BeautyCounter products from shampoo, to charcoal and anti-aging masks to makeup! PS I’m obsessed with the Charcoal Mask and Plumping Mask, I guarantee you will feel a difference in your skin after the first use! It’s so much smoother. (I’m even making my husband wear it.. hehe sshhhh)
I don’t put a lot of stuff outside of recipes on my blog. And for a while I hesitated because I didn’t want to come off too “sales-y.” I want this place to feel like a safe place. A place where you trust me and value my opinion and not a place where you feel like I’m pushing stuff at you! We’re friends!
So picture we are out for coffee, without the kids, and I’m just sharing all the stuff I’ve learned about chemicals in our personal care products. Then I share “I wonder if this is part of the reason I’ve struggled with infertility” because that was the first thought that went through my head. The next thought was, “Oh my gosh, I’m putting those chemicals on my son and husband!” Those are the main reasons I switched if I’m being on honest. But when I tried the products I fell in love with them and honestly my skin looks better than ever before!
