An Easy Fig and Bacon Appetizer Idea
Tis the season of all things appetizers, cookies and cocktails! Err… should I say party food!
This Bacon Wrapped Fig number will be your go to. In fact, I’m bringing them this weekend to a ladies Christmas Party we’re having for church. But I’ll be making a double batch because these bad boys will go fast and at only 87 calories per serving the ladies will be all over it! Woot Woot!
Sweet. Salty. Crispy. Cheesy.
What more could you ask for!
Usually bacon wrapped dates are the thing this time of year, and people typically stuff them with a cream cheese mixture of sorts. They are delicious but I wanted to change it up.
I absolutely love figs so I went that route and stuffed them with a homemade herb goat cheese mixture. Y’all they are like bacon candy! It’s incredible!
Can I Substitute Dry Figs for Fresh Figs?
Yes! All you need to do is place the dry figs in a pot of water and simmer for 5-10 minutes until they puff up. This will rehydrate the figs and bring some moisture back in to them. Remove them from the water and pat dry with a paper towel. They are ready to use!
What Are Bacon Wrapped Figs?
It’s pretty simple. They are dry figs, usually stuffed with a cheese mixture of sorts, wrapped in bacon and then cooked in the oven until the cheese is melted and bacon is crispy.
How to Make Bacon Wrapped Figs:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Rehydrate figs and pat dry.
- Using a knife, make a 1/2″ slice through the fig.
- Stuff the fig with a cheese mixture.
- Wrap each fig with bacon and secure with a toothpick.
- Place bacon wrapped figs on parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes
- Remove from oven and serve warm
How to Cook Bacon Wrapped Figs:
- Place prepared bacon wrapped figs on a parchment lined baking sheet, seam side down!
- Cook them in the oven at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until bacon is crispy!
- Remove from oven and serve warm.
- Optional: some people top is brown sugar or a balsamic glaze.
I like to serve my without the toppings of brown sugar or balsamic because I like to let them shine. They really don’t need much, there is already so much flavor packed into those little bites it will blow you’re mind. Adding more sugar just takes away the flavor, in my humble opinion.
But you do you! 🙂
Just promise me you’ll make these Bacon Wrapped Figs this holiday season okay? They truly are to die for! Plus, bacon and goat cheese. Nough said, mkay!
Bon Appetit friends!
