All you need is a batch of freshly baked Pita Chips to boost this dish over the edge into perfection.

What Is 7 Layer Dip Made Of?

Let’s go over exactly what you’ll need to make this Mediterranean masterpiece. See full amounts in the recipe card near the end of this post.

For the Whipped Feta

  • Cream Cheese
  • Feta Cheese
  • Garlic Clove: Don’t worry about mincing the garlic – everything will be blended in your food processor.
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed.

For the 7 Layer Dip

  • Original Hummus: Make Homemade Hummus for the tastiest results.
  • Diced Cucumbers: English cucumbers are ideal here. If you’re using regular ones, you’ll have to seed them.
  • Diced Tomato
  • Diced Red Onion
  • Sliced Kalamata Olives: If you’re not a fan of these fruity Greek olives, you can opt for black olives instead.
  • Crumbled Feta Cheese: To bring the dip full circle.

Putting It Together

You’ll have this hearty dip on the table in 5 minutes or less. Here’s all you have to do to make it happen:

Make Whipped Feta: Add the cream cheese, feta cheese, garlic clove, oregano, basil and lemon juice to a small food processor. Blend until the mixture is smooth and the garlic clove is minced.

Assemble Layers: Evenly spread the whipped feta onto the bottom of a large plate or an 8×8-inch dish. Top it with a layer of hummus, then add the cucumber, tomato, red onion, kalamata olives and crumbled feta.

Enjoy! Serve your 7 layer dip with pita chips or raw veggies.

Helpful Tips

With a recipe this easy, nothing can really go wrong. These tips and tricks will help ensure flawless results.

  • Keep It Fresh: The freshness of this dish is a big part of what makes it so delightful. Don’t try to swap in dried herbs or frozen veggies – it just wouldn’t be the same!
  • Use an Offset Spatula: If you’re building your dip on a serving plate or platter, using an offset spatula is the easiest way to layer the spreads. If you’re building it in a baking dish, use the back of a spoon.
  • Serve Immediately: It’s best to enjoy this 7 layer dip right after you assemble it. If you’re not serving it right away, be sure to keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to dig in.

Add-Ins & Variations

Serving Suggestions

This Mediterranean classic is traditionally served with pita chips, which pair with it beautifully – but it’s always fun to switch things up! Raw carrots and celery are a fail-proof choice, and you could even turn the dip into a spread for crostini.

Another thing I like to do with this dish is turn it into a full-blown salad. Simply stir it into a big serving bowl with your favorite greens and add some more diced veggies. Serve the whipped feta and hummus on the side if you’d like to add it as you go.

Can I Make This in Advance?

You can assemble your 7 layer dip a few hours before you serve it if you keep it covered in the fridge, but after a while, the veggies will start to release liquid and make it watery. If you’d like to get started on it a whole day ahead of time, you can prepare each component separately.

Dice up the veggies and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Prepare the whipped feta and the hummus, refrigerating each one in its own airtight container. Dab the veggies with a paper towel to remove excess moisture before you assemble the dip.
