“If we don’t have fear we can’t be courageous.”
I’ve been mulling that phrase over and over in my head the past couple of days.
The funny thing about this phrase is, it was in a show I saw on shark week of all things.
Cason and I have been catching up on the shows we DVR’d during shark week. One of them was about a UFC fighter Ronda Rousey who dares to go uncaged and stare down a Mako shark.
So. For those of you who don’t know, a Mako shark is basically the close cousin of the Great White Shark. Except way faster! They live out in the deep blue ocean so they don’t really come in counter with humans. Which means the idea of Ronda Rousey jumping into the water, UNCAGED, to stare down an aggressive apex predator is absolutely crazy-town and should strike fear into anyones bones.
Here’s the kicker. She had never been scuba diving before either! So in order to get ready for that dive she had a team of people who were training her physically … but more so mentally to prepare her. After all she was entering the “mako’s arena” … the deep blue!
Each step along the way she expressed fear.
Right before she was about to jump into the water with the Mako shark, after all her training she said. “Yes. I’m fearful. But if we don’t have fear, we can’t be courageous.” Literally she could have mic dropped on that one. Such a powerful statement.
I’ve been thinking about what situations I’m putting myself in that I can grow from.. areas where I haven’t “made a move” in because fear is holding me back. Or what areas I AM moving forward on but fearful in them.
Things like. Expanding my blog, adding fitness and nutrition. Hiring someone to watch Madison. Cason going into 1st grade. A lot of those things give me a little bit of hesitation or anxiety.
Here’s the other kicker. What areas am I allowing my CHILD to experience fear/anxiety/nervousness? If he doesn’t experience it, he won’t know how strong he is and that he’s able to do hard things! Gosh. Thinking of allowing him to experience those things gives me a stomach because I don’t want him to experience fear or feel uncomfortable… but he needs to. It’s part of growing up to be a strong individual. Lord give us wisdom and grace!
Ok. Now on to today’s recipe. School has started and quick easy recipes are a must.
This 30 Minute Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry will be your go to. It’s super easy to make, has minimal ingredients and honestly I think it’s better than most take out restaurants. (plus it’s probably way better for you… ahem no msg here!)
I actually ate this stir fry plain, but you could serve it over some cauliflower rice to keep it low carb. Plus the cauliflower will add even more flavor to this dish.
Can’t wait to hear what you guys think.
Bon Appetit friends. And happy friday!
