Recipe Ingredients

Agave nectar rounds out the berries’ tartness and the orange and lime juice’s tang. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact ingredient amounts.

  • Berries – Frozen berry mixes are best so that the consistency is thick and icy.
  • Ice cubes Crush them slightly before using to prevent large chunks in your serving glasses.
  • Tequila – Use your favorite brand.
  • Orange juice I prefer freshly-squeezed orange juice over store-bought.
  • Grand Marnier Feel free to use your favorite orange liquor.
  • Limes – You’ll need the juice for the margaritas and the zest for the glasses. You can also use lemons for this.
  • Agave nectar Raw honey and maple syrup can be used instead.
  • Sugar – This is optional for rimming the glasses.

What Tequila Is Best For Margaritas?

Silver (or white) tequila is best for margaritas because it’s got a very clean, sharp flavor with a silky smooth finish. This lets the berries in the recipe be the star of the show. Although aged tequilas can also be used, they’ll add different kinds of smokiness, sweetness, and spice to the mixture.

How To Make A Frozen Margarita

This frozen margarita recipe with berries is as easy as making your favorite fruit smoothie. Scroll to the bottom of the post for the full recipe card.

  • Blend it. Except for the garnishes, add all of the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.
  • Add the rims. Mix the lime zest with 2 tablespoons sugar on a plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the serving glasses. Press the rims against the lime-sugar mixture.
  • Serve. Pour the margaritas into the glasses, serve, and enjoy!

Tips for Success

Take any frozen margarita to the next level with a sweet Miguelito rim and a bit of spicy Mexican chamoy in the mixture.

  • Swap the rim. If you’re not into sugar rims, use Miguelito (sweet Mexican chili powder), Tajín, or salt instead.
  • Make them fruitier. Swap half of the berries for chopped mango, peaches, or pineapple for more natural sweetness.
  • Add heat. Blend 1-2 tablespoons chamoy sauce or 1/4 teaspoon chili powder into the margarita mixture for a bit of heat.
  • Make mocktails. Skip the tequila and Grand Marnier to make alcohol-free slushy-like mocktails that are family-friendly.
  • Add garnishes. Sliced limes, lemons, strawberries, and oranges make great fruity garnishes for your cocktails.
  • Chill the glasses. Keep your margaritas colder for longer by popping the cocktail glasses into the freezer for 15-20 minutes before you serve your drinks.

Can You Make Frozen Margaritas In Advance?

You can make frozen margaritas up to 2 hours in advance and refrigerate the mixture in a pitcher. If you’d like to make them further in advance, blend all of the ingredients as usual except the ice. Blend it in right before serving for super icy drinks.
