Strawberry Margarita Recipe

So this weekend we are throwing a “make up” Cinco de Mayo party. See, originally we were going to have a big Cinco de Mayo pool party at our house. It had been raining all week and when we looked at the weather report it was suppose to rain again, so we decided to cancel the party. Our house with 28 adults and 15+ kids would not work.

Then of course, it was sunny all that day. Why is it that a meteorologist is one of the only jobs that you can be wrong most of the time and it’s ok?

Anyway, we are throwing a make up party this weekend, Memorial Day weekend because, well, why not!

First on the menu is of course cocktails! When I think of Mexican food, Margaritas are first on the list and then guacamole is a close second.

Usually, Mike and I are more on the rocks margarita kinda people but lately I’ve been loving the frozen margaritas. Homemade Frozen Margaritas that is, I never order them out because they are always loaded with sugar and sodium! If you make them at home you know exactly what goes in them because you’re controlling it.

How to make Strawberry Margaritas without a mix?

  1. To a blender add 4 cups of frozen strawberries, 2 cups of ice cubes, 1 cup tequila, 3/4 cup orange juice, 1/3 cup grand mariner and 1/3 cup lime juice.
  2. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.
  3. Optional: garnish glass rims with salt or sugar
No need to buy a mix, all of the ingredients in this strawberry margarita recipe are real ingredients. No additives. And trust me, you can tell the difference!

How do you make a margarita in a blender?

Add all of your ingredients (tequila, triple sec or Grand Marnier, lime juice and simple syrup optional)  to a blender along with ice and blender until smooth. Serve in glasses with garnish rim and a lime. If you want a flavored margarita just add that fruit, mango for mango, strawberry for strawberry or raspberry for raspberry. Easy peasy.

Can you make frozen margaritas ahead of time?

YES! You can actually make the margarita a day a head of time and keep it in the freezer. The alcohol will keep the margarita from completely freezing, it will be more slushy form. So all you have to do is bring it in and blend it up right before serving!

That fact that you can make these frozen margaritas ahead of time is one of the reasons I love it so much! Anything that I can prep in advance for parties is a winner to me. I live by prep when it comes to entertaining because it allows me to be present the day of the party!

If you’re a margarita fan you are going to love this one. I use the same ratios I use for my Ultimate on the Rocks Margarita and then add in the fruit. And let me tell you, these are dangerous. In my on the rocks margarita you can taste the liquor, but in the Strawberry Margarita Recipe it’s hidden with the strawberry slushie flavor. They sneak up on you for real. So be warned!

I can guarantee you’re going to love it though so cheers friends and happy long Memorial Day weekend!

Bon Appetit!

  1. My husband and I have tried many different frozen margarita recipes and this one is always hands down the best. It comes out just as good as the ones you get at restaurants and sometimes better. Thank you for a great recipe we always come back to!

  2. I’ve only ever made watermelon margaritas but I think I will step out of the box and give this a shot! Looks terrific!
